And She’s BAAACK!!!

•August 25, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Yes, I am back and (hopefully) over the horrible jet lag :D ! As I am now capable of posting I thought that I would give a little update as to how my life is going at the moment.

I have finished reading “Breaking Dawn” which I thought was a decent book (even though many people are saying that it was a terrible end for the series). I have also finished reading “Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox” which, again, was a pretty good book. (Next on my reading list is…”Brisingr”(Eragon 3) coming out in late September, I am SUCH a horrible fan, I don’t even know the release date :-( , LOL)

In other news, I just had to go for a couple of medical tests (REALLY fun, not!) But I couldn’t get the ECG today because we went to late! So now I have to go back to the clinic TOMORROW and waste yet ANOTHER great afternoon where I could be doing anything else, because Blood Tests and ECGs are SO NOT on the top of my list!

Well, that’s all for now people and I will hopefully be posting once I am VERY less hyper (if that makes any sense, LOL)

Peace Out :)

Propane Explosion in Toronto

•August 10, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I would just like to make a little post regarding the propane explosion that occurred in Toronto this morning. Personally, I have friends and family in Toronto and I would just like to send a message out to these people that we are all thinking of them. Hopefully, everything will return to normal, soon, and these people can return to their homes.

Peace Out :)

EDIT: There are reports surfacing that a fireman was killed in the explosion and I would like to convey my sympathy to his family.

On Monday, my entire family is going away (my first time off continent!), so I may/may not be posting for two weeks or so. I WILL update this blog when I come back (scouts honor!). So, have a great two weeks and enjoy whatever you’re doing! I’ll write when I come back.

Peace Out :)

Being a Teen, Part Deux

•August 7, 2008 • 1 Comment

Just a bit of an add on to my first post (“Being a Teenager”). Today, while at Wal Mart, I was watching Kelli while my mother, Leesha and Jessi were picking out some clothes. Two older women came up to me and started talking to me, (to my face!) saying how irresponsible I am, having a baby at such a young age (‘terrible and shocking, how young people behave these days, in my day, this never would have happened’) and ‘to make matters worse, you take her out in 120 degree weather, so irresponsible’.

I was completely shocked by their words to me and after me stammering out “Kelli is not my baby.” (to which they replied, ‘You should at least take responsibility for your actions.” [Just a question: Why do older adults always feel that they are right and we (younger people, or anyone, really) are wrong?]) After this whole spectacle, I walked away, without any more protests (I know, I need to develop a spine, LOL).

NOTE: To any of you reading this, who live in the Greater Toronto Area, it was NOT 120 degrees outside today, by either temperature scale!

Anyone, teens or otherwise, who have had similar experiences, please post! Everyone, feel free to leave comments.

Peace Out :)

Best Weekend Ever :)

•August 4, 2008 • Leave a Comment

This weekend was seriously the most fun I have had in  a long time. My family (all eight children!) and two of my friends from school took a trip to Webster’s Falls / Spencer Gorge in Flamborough, Ontario. This happens to be one of my favorite places in the whole world, right now! All of us, minus my mother, Jessi, Leesha and Kelli (my father was working), went down the stone stairs that lead to the base of the falls. In the water immediately in front of the falls, there are large boulders and rocks in the water that make getting to the ledge behind the falls into QUITE a challenge! We must have been quite a sight, six girls in long sleeves and long skirts attempting to climb behind the water fall. We actually managed to walk behind the falls twice! Climbing this time was very difficult (way more so than the times that my family has done this previously). The current was unusually strong and I fell into the water several times (no one else fell in; luckily for them, I was leading the group for part of the time!). On the climb back from the falls, we actually had to form a human chain to pass several of the smaller girls (Noa, Miranda and Rebekkah) to Justin on the dry(-er) land near the base of the stairs.

I realize that I am going on and on about this, but it was really the most fun that I have had all summer (if you don’t understand, go visit Webster’s Falls, than you will, LOL :D  )

Peace Out :)

EDIT: I want to thank Justin for being an amazing help on this trip, we couldn’t have done it without you, buddy!

Love, Lanna :D

Finished Day Camp :(

•August 3, 2008 • Leave a Comment

On Friday, I finished the only day camp that I have taken part in all summer. Now there’s one thing everyone reading this blog should know: I CAN NOT do art! In fact, my teacher and I have a standing deal, she passes me with a relatively decent mark, and I don’t take her course next year. Well, this camp that I went to is an art camp. I was signed up for it a) because it’s a cheap camp and b) because my siblings go there and its easy for my mom to drop us all off at the same place, at the same time. So…I ended up taking photography and some of the people who took the course me and my counselor/teacher, helped me realize that I CAN do art, even though it’s not the traditional kind. (Apparently, I have “an amazing talent for working with black-and-white film” (not my words, LOL) So, in all, I’m sad that camp has ended and hopefully I’ll go back next year (even though my parents will probably think that its a waste of time blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda, LOL)

EDIT: Actually, they said this when i asked them today and now refuse to let me take up photography as a hobby, altogether, :s :( :s .

So this post is mostly to say thank you to an amazing teacher for not giving up on me. (You know who you are) “Thank you so much for not giving up on me.”

Love, Lanna

Peace Out :)

My Family… Eight Children!

•July 31, 2008 • 1 Comment

As you may have read in my profile, I am the eldest child (hence the name) in a family of eight children. Our are teenager, (me, Lanna), 13-years-old (Justin, also a teen, but I get the title, LOL), 11-years-old (Rebekkah), 9- and-a-half (Miranda), 8-and-a-bit (Noa), 6-years-old (Jessica), 3-years-old (Aleesha) and 11-months (Kelli).

Having a big family is great, but can be a bit difficult sometimes. My parents have a policy of only making one meal for dinner (unlike some of the other families that we know, that will make different dinners for each of the children depending on what they like), so each night, it is someone else’s turn to choose what the menu for dinner will be. It can be very hard when Justin, who has VERY weird taste in food, chooses the dinner menu (I don’t know of anyone who actually likes to eat fried veggie-bacon with california salad dressing and melted cheese for dinner with pancakes!)

When it comes to school lunches, we are all supposed to make are own (and one of us will usually make Leesha’s lunch, as well). But usually, Noa volunteers to make the lunches for the older kids as well, because she knows “how hard we work and wants to help us” (her words, not mine!).

Dinner time is always crazy in my house. Ever since I can remember, my parents have insisted that the WHOLE family should sit down and have dinner together. I love dinner time, even though it is chaotic (CONTROLLED chaos, LOL) because it is a time when our whole family can sit down and talk about our day. It’s always fun to hear about the younger kids escapades in nursery school! My brilliant younger brother also usually updates us on the status of whatever extra-curricular (not for school) project he is working on at the moment (usually a movie or a story).

Our family is very musical as well. I started to play the piano at the age of three-years-old and my siblings followed soon after. Currently, I am in Royal Conservatory Grade 8, Rebekkah is in Grade 5, Justin is also in Grade 5, Miranda is entering Grade 1 and Noa, Jessica and Aleesha are working with an alternate program, YAMAHA, the program which I first started off in at the age of three.

I love having a big family because there’s always someone to talk to. If I need clothing or makeup advice, I go to Rebekkah. If I need musical advice, I go to Miranda, who has almost-perfect hearing, in terms of determining the pitch of a note. Noa is our family athlete and clown, if any of us ever need cheering up, it is Noa that we go to. Jessi, Leesha and Kelli are so cute, and if I am having a bad day, a couple of minutes of playing with them will cheer me up. It is amazing to be part of a big family and I would never trade my siblings in for anything in the world. (To my siblings:) Guys, I love you so much and should tell you more how much fun it is to just be around you.

Peace Out :-)

EDIT: I posted this because of my friend Greg, who is forever asking me about how it is to be a part of a big family.

Two Days To Go!

•July 31, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I would just like to point out, for any ‘Twilight” fans who are reading this blog, that the fourth and final book in the series, ‘Breaking Dawn’, comes out tomorrow, Friday, August 1 (well, its technically coming out Saturday morning). If you are reading this and you have not yet read ‘Twilight’, I would advise you to do so IMMEDIATELY! The ‘Twilight’ books are some of my favorite books of all time! They are the perfect books, for teenagers, such as me, who love fantasy. The books are also mixed with a bit of romance, which is always good, LOL.

Two days and counting down, ::squee::

Peace Out :-)

Edit: My dad wouldn’t let me pre-order ‘Breaking Dawn’, so now I’m going to have to go and stand in line for it on Sunday :-( . Life is so unfair sometimes… ::sigh::

Being A Teenager…

•July 30, 2008 • 2 Comments

Many adults don’t remember how hard it is to be a teenager. People (especially older ones!) tend to assume the worst of you, just by looking at you. I would like to illustrate this statement with a story; something that happened to me yesterday.

I took three of my sisters to play at a park that is not far from my house. At the park, the six-year-old, Jessi, and the three-year-old, Leesha, decided that they wanted to go play on the curly slide. I sat down on the grass to play with the baby, ‘Kelli, who is not quite one yet. As I was playing with the baby, two older women sat down on a bench, close to us. They began to talk and then spotted me. One of the women turned to the other and commented, “Look how irresponsible teenagers are these days. It’s despicable that a girl that young should have a child. In my day, that would never have happened.”

These comments really upset me. Look what people automatically assume when they see a teenager with a baby (I was talking to a friend of mine who mentioned that the same thing has happened to her, a couple of times). Are we teenagers in general “so irresponsible” that when a teen is seen baby-sitting, the assumption is that it is their baby? A decade or even a couple of years ago, people would have just assumed that the teen was baby-sitting.

So please do me a favor if you are reading this blog, don’t judge someone before you know the full story; things aren’t always as they seem.

Peace Out :-)

EDIT: I would like to post something that I found copied onto someone’s profile on FanFiction.Net.

“If you are a virgin and are planning on remaining a virgin until after marriage, post this into your profile.”

Please take this and post it onto your profile if you are a teen and feel the same way.

Thanks. :-D
